NO DISTRESS, NO PROBLEM OR DISORDER
This is where positive mental health often occurs, just living life to its fullest and not having to deal with everyday stressors. It is unlikely that many individuals will be at this point in their mental health for an extended duration, but finding a time and place to relax from all stressors and clear your mind is a great way to keep your mental health.
MENTAL DISTRESS
Mental distress is part of everyday life causing significant stress to an individual. Mental distress doesn’t require professional help, however should be left for the individual to work through, for example, when playing Rainbow Six Siege and having to play against really toxic people, it can cause significant distress, they may learn from that in the future, either muting the chat, or just ignoring them. Dealing with distress can allow people to learn how to deal and cope with future life challenges. Despite this, too much mental distress can lead to greater mental health issues.
MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS
Mental health problems often are as a result of mental distress experienced, for example it could be a close family member that was in hospital causing the worry/stress and sadly they may pass away, resulting in grief. Mental health problems can often lead to mental illnesses, which is why they should be dealt with as early as possible. Professional help such as counselling can help, as well as community and family support.
MENTAL HEALTH DISORDER
Mental disorders are behavioral or mental changes that cause significant distress or impairment of someones daily functioning. When mental health problems aren’t dealt with effectively, they often turn into mental health disorders like depression or anxiety.
MENTAL WELLBEING
MIND defines mental wellbeing as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.
Mental wellbeing is different for everyone, with a wide range of feelings and thoughts influencing our emotions and behaviour everyday. By being in a place of good mental wellbeing, it helps strengthen us against developing mental health issues and also enables us to help people cope better with their own existing mental health disorders.
